The Artist's Jimmy Garoppolo Project Finally Ends With Raiders News

The nearly year-long project by San Francisco 49ers artist and fan Rita Carvalho drawing Jimmy Garoppolo every day "until he's traded" finally ended on Monday.

Although "Jimmy G." Technically untraded, Garoppolo and the Las Vegas Raiders agreed to a three-year, $67.5 million deal Monday afternoon, meaning the 31-year-old will leave the Bay Area after six seasons tournament with the team.

Carvalho's job began almost exactly a year ago, in March 2022, when it seemed almost certain that Garoppolo would leave the 49ers. Instead, the former New England Patriots signal caller stayed in San Francisco for an extra year under a restructured contract and agreed to become a backup for Trey Lance heading into last season.

After Lance suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2, Garoppolo took over and eventually led the quarterback committee in games and starts (11 and 10), completion rate (67.2%) , the number of passes (2,437) and the number of touches to the ball (16), while throwing only four interceptions and recording a 7-3 record. The 2014 second-round pick suffered a leg injury in Week 13 and rookie Brock Purdy started the rest of the way.

In July, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, Garoppolo told an ABC television affiliate in San Francisco that he had seen the drawings and enjoyed them.

“Rita, I appreciate it,” said Garoppolo. "It's really cool, just how unique it is. We'll see how many more you have to draw."
