NFL Mock Draft 2023 post-match: Anthony Richardson rises, Bears hold No. 1

CBS Sports' Ryan Wilson has released his latest 2023 NFL Simulation Draft, coming soon in conjunction with some major changes. They were highlighted by a new wide receiver appearing first across the board and four quarterbacks making it to the top 10. Weighing between winners and losers in Indianapolis, NFL teams are now beginning to ramp up the process. reviews lead to different professional competition dates.

There is speculation that the Chicago Bears are "tilting towards" the #1 overall pick trade for more picks. But if that doesn't happen, Wilson hopes the franchise will put the best player on the board that isn't a quarterback. Justin Fields showed remarkable strides last season and seems to be the harbinger of Chicago's future.

The Indianapolis Colts are one of four teams in the top 10 expected to receive the quarterback, and owner Jim Irsay has given an idea of who he wants. Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson, CJ Stroud and Will Levis are all vying for the best midfield spot.

Here's CBS Sports' latest NFL Simulation Draft after putting together and our thoughts on the options.

1. WILL ANDERSON JR., LB, ALABAMA (BEAR)

Anderson's test numbers in Indianapolis aren't particularly striking, but they also don't affect his stock as the top defensive player currently available. If Chicago doesn't move its #1 overall pick, there's growing belief that the Alabama passer will go into that spot. A transcendent outsider and hasty mixologist, Anderson was enthralled as a sophomore at the Crimson Tide, but failed to produce the same amount of out-of-this-world production in 2022. Teams keep doubling him every chance he gets. Anderson ended the regular season with 10 bags after signing up for 17.5 in 2021. He's once again an All-SEC performer despite a relatively quiet campaign by giant standards. his own giant.

2. BRYCE YOUNG, QB, ALABAMA (TEXANS)

Young didn't throw, but the media's comments divided his opinion. While historical trends say differently, it's hard to argue with 79 touchdown passes and 8,200 yards past 27 college starts for the Crimson Tide.

“I've had this size, respectfully, my whole life,” Young said via BamaOnLine. "I know who I am. I know what I can do. I think it's fair. People can speculate and ask any questions necessary, but I will continue to control what I can. control. "

3. TYREE WILSON, EDGE, TEXAS TECH (Cardinal)

Wilson moves extremely well with his size of 6 feet 6, 271 pounds. His score of 6.77, according to NFL.com's NextGenStats, is in the "elite" starter category. Wilson had a breakout season as one of the Big 12's most feared line-ups before his season ended in Week 11 through injury. He announced his entry into the squad after a total of 61 tackles - 36 solos - with seven tackles and one clumsy catch during the year. Wilson previously registered a total of 37 tackles for the Red Raiders in 2021 and just 10 tackles in his first year at Lubbock in 2020. The number is as high as we've seen Wilson mocked. during pre-drafting.

4. CJ STROUD, QB, BANG OHIO (COLTS)

Stroud makes the argument that he's the best pure passer in this class in his combo pitch. Stroud doesn't mind other personal tests like 40, shuttle, wide jump, and others. He'll wait for Ohio State's Professional Day for those. But what he has shown is one of the strongest arms in the class with absolute precision down the line. He even got a chance to throw a couple of overhead passes to former teammate Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Stroud has won the Heisman finalist title for the past two seasons after throwing 8,123 yards and 85 touchdowns with 12 interceptions in 25 career starts. Stroud hit four touchdown passes into Georgia's most lauded defense during the Peach Bowl.

5. JALEN CARTER, DL, GEORGIA (SEAHAWKS FROM BRONCOS)

Carter's draft source was slightly altered from the 1st pick that could return to some positions after it was reported that he was involved in the crash that killed a former teammate and Georgia employee on January. Carter left office early and made a statement after authorities in Athens issued a warrant for his arrest. He is said to have returned to Indianapolis shortly thereafter. Considered by many to be Georgia's top prospect, Carter could get the same promotion as Travon Walker in the judging process if his pro-day performance goes well and NFL teams feel the same way. satisfied with his ongoing legal status.

6. MYLES MURPHY, DL, CLEMSON (LIONS FROM RAMS)

Like Alabama and Ohio State, Clemson has been a monster at producing top defensive talent in recent seasons. Murphy is next to become a potential top 10 pick if his development continues during pre-draft. The former five-star led Clemson with 14 tackles conceded and seven tackles last season, easing some of the pressure of a rushed pass without Bryan Bresee for much of the campaign. Standing 6 feet-5, weighing 275 pounds, Murphy is muscular and has excellent speed for a player his size. Murphy has had 6.5 caps and one forced fumble this season.

7. ANTHONY RICHARDSON, QB, FLORIDA (RAIDERS)

From swinging the ball like a basketball on his fingers to nearly landing to celebrate after his impressive throw, it's Richardson's least notable achievement of any quarterback. . Florida's most anticipated product as one of the top 10 picks broke several combined records at this location, including the 40.5-inch vertical jump and the 10-foot-9 wide jump. . Richardson made the 4.44-second 40-yard run, the fourth-best time in midfield, all-time. At 6-foot-4, weighing 244 pounds, Richardson moves incredibly well for his size, and his test runs are off the charts. Pull out Sharpie, he's the first.

8. CHRISTIAN GONZALEZ, CB, OREGON

Gonzalez has a more ideal physique in terms of speed and agility, and performed well in Indianapolis ahead of others in his position. Other full-backs mentioned as potential top 10 picks in April include South Carolina's Cam Smith, Joey Porter Jr. of Penn State and Devon Witherspoon from Illinois. Gonzalez isn't the biggest of that quartet, but has the most remarkable speed. The Falcons can use an instant starter on the backend and several options give Atlanta that luxury, it's just a matter of who they want.

9. WILL LEVIS, QB, KENTUCKY

Levis showed off his rocketry for an arm in the combo and was one of the most skilled quarterbacks inside Lucas Oil Stadium. He confirmed what most people already know about Levis - he is an exceptional talent in shorts and t-shirts. Panthers need a signal caller and stay here to chase him. Levis, the only quarterback in Kentucky history to beat rivals Louisville and Florida twice, has won 17-7 at the start of two seasons and is fourth all-time in responsible touchdowns. (54), fifth all-time for touches (43), fifth for total fouls (5,501 yards) and sixth for passes (5,232). He's fighting Young, Richardson, and Strong for the top payout.

10. JOEY PORTER JR., CB, PENN STATE (EAGLES FROM SAINTS)

No Penn State full-back has ever been picked in the opening round of the draft, but - following his 2022 All-American season - Porter is in a promising position to make the show's history . He's met huge expectations as a red-shirt student, starting with his season opener at Purdue. According to Pro Football Focus, Porter was targeted 14 times that night in West Lafayette, resulting in a total of less than 70 yards of pick-ups and a record six clearances at school. He added eight tackles and a clumsy recovery in the win.
